Zuccardi, Valles Malbec 2023

Bodega Zuccardi, run by the pioneering Zuccardi family since the 1960s in Mendoza, is known for its meticulous focus on terroir-driven viticulture. Their “Valles” line sources grapes from high-altitude vineyards across Uco Valley, grown in sandy, mineral-rich soils. These are sustainable practices, emphasising low yields, natural balance, and minimal intervention in the winery. Deep ruby, this 2023 Malbec opens with expansive aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, and violet, edged by graphite and a touch of wild herb. Plush and medium-bodied, the palate unfolds layered berry fruit, smooth cocoa, and a fine dusting of tobacco. Polished tannins provide structure, while bright acidity keeps it fresh. The finish is long, mineral-tinged, and elegant; an expressive yet classically framed Malbec.
